Women's Tennis Heads To Contender Crossfit Islander Open

LAFAYETTE – With a trip to Corpus Christi, Texas the Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis team begins their 2017 fall season taking part in the Contender Crossfit Islander Open, which starts on Friday, Sept. 15 and goes through the weekend wrapping up on Sunday, Sept. 17.
The event will see the Cajuns taking on some solid Division I competition, including the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Lamar, Prairie View, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of the Incarnate Word and the host school Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Louisiana enters the season having put together an 8-11 record last spring, but they held a solid 6-3 record in Lafayette and they return three seniors, one junior and two sophomores along with adding five freshmen to the mix.
Making the trip this weekend for the Cajuns and head coach Stephanie Vallejos, are seniors Abby Johnson and Kelly Drew along with junior Carla Ortega. With her first appearance in a Cajuns uniform, having transferred from Nevada over the offseason, sophomore Milena Achlamov is also joining her teammates on the trip.
Freshmen Floriane Picaut, Dana Radovanovic and Morgan Forshag will all be making the trip as well and the weekend's action will be the first they've seen on the collegiate level as they look to gain experience and before heading into the spring season.
