2017 John Breaux Cajuns Tennis Classic Draws Are Set

9/21/2017 10:24:00 AM | Men's Tennis

LAFAYETTE – The 2017 John Breaux Cajuns Tennis Classic's draws have been set and the Louisiana men's tennis team are ready to welcome some of the top competition to the elite fall tournament being held this weekend in Lafayette.

Making the trip to Lafayette this year are Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, Oklahoma State, Georgia State, South Florida and Kentucky and they bring with them some of the better players making this a top-notch tournament.

Louisiana will have three doubles groups competing in the doubles draw, and between the first and second flight the Cajuns have five men competing in the singles portion of the event.

DOUBLES DRAW (MAIN): At 8:30 a.m. the tournament will be kicked off with doubles competition across the board and the Ragin' Cajuns will have three pairs competing in the first round.

At the top of the bracket for the Cajuns are the freshman pairing of Dominik Koenig and Pierce Gilheany, who in their first collegiate doubles match, will take on the No. 1 seeded Texas duo of juniors Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles.

Drawing yet another tough match, is the Cajuns grouping of sophomore Jamie Fraser and freshman Nico Sojka, who in their match will take on the No. 2 seeded Texas Tech combo of senior Connor Curry and junior Artem Kapshuk.

The final Cajuns pair of senior Vlad Kramarov and sophomore Pearse Dolan have drawn and will face Oklahoma State's pair of senior Jurence Mendoza and freshman Maxim Tybar who have received the No. 4 seed.

Overall the Cajuns have drawn three tough matches, but they're prepared to make some noise early in the double competition and knock off a few top seeds.

SINGLES DRAW (FLIGHT 1): In the first flight, starting at 9:30 a.m., the Cajuns have one man competing in the bracket.  Fraser will be taking on Texas Tech's No. 4 seeded senior Alex Sendegeya in Fraser's first singles match of the competition.

The other Cajuns men are all competing in flight two and each have their own tough match to compete in.

SINGLES DRAW (FLIGHT 2): The second flight will see four Ragin' Cajuns men competing across the bracket.  As they look to move deep into the weekend.

Dolan will be the only Cajuns player to face a seeded opponent as he takes on the No. 4 seeded sophomore Nils Heimer of South Florida with that match scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.

Taking on LSU's Nikola Samardzic in a match scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. start, is Koenig in his first collegiate singles match.

From there the other matches across the flight aren't scheduled to begin until at least 11:30 a.m. and they'll include the other two Cajuns in the draw.

Kramarov will take on Texas junior Colin Markes in his first singles match of the season, while Sojka has drawn and will face South Florida's freshman Sean Burnette in Sojka's first career singles match.

The Cajuns have a busy second flight and all the men are in position to make a run at the title but they'll need to knock off some top talent to get there, something the Cajuns are quite capable of doing.
