9/21/2017 12:11:00 PM | Soccer
LAFAYETTE – After a great first weekend of Sun Belt Conference play the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team returns to Lafayette for their conference home opener, hosting the Georgia Southern Eagles on Daddy-Daughter Day, for their lone match of the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
          Â
The Cajuns went 1-0-1 over the past weekend, beating Arkansas State on Sept. 15 in overtime 2-1, before traveling to Little Rock where they drew the Trojans, 1-1, on Sept. 17.
          Â
Louisiana enters the weekend with a record of 4-4-1 (1-0-1 SBC) and they'll look to improve that record while maintaining themselves near the top of the conference standings.
          Â
Their past weekend was highlighted with a late goal, the latest scored in Cajuns history, when senior Haley Boroch nailed home the equalizer on the volley with only two seconds remaining on the clock in their match against Little Rock.
          Â
While freshman Una Einarsdottir scored her second penalty kick of the season, and of her young career, for the Cajuns to come away with the overtime victory against Arkansas State.Â
          Â
As for the Eagles, they enter the weekend 3-3-1 (1-0-0 SBC) and they'll play Texas State in San Marcos, Texas on Friday, Sept. 22 before making the trip east to take on the Cajuns.
          Â
All-time the Cajuns hold a 2-1-0 advantage over the Eagles, but have never won a match in Lafayette. The Cajuns have taken the last two meetings between the schools, a 1-0 win on Sept. 25, 2015 and a 2-0 victory on Sept. 23, 2016. But both of those matches took place in Statesboro, Georgia.Â
          Â
The lone match in Lafayette took place on Sept. 14, 2014 in the first meeting between the two schools. It resulted in a 2-1 loss for the Cajuns so they'll look to extend their two-match winning streak against the Eagles with the first ever home win against them.Â
          Â
Sunday's match, which starts at 1 p.m., has free admission for anyone wanting to come out and support the Cajuns. For any fan who can't make the trip the match will be streamed for free on the Ragin' Cajuns Digital Network with links provided on the website.
