Cajuns Host CCU, Head To GSU This Weekend

LAFAYETTE – Off to their best start in conference since 2007, the Louisiana women's soccer team returns to the pitch this weekend with a home and away spilt, first up they'll host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Georgia State Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 1 at noon as they look to continue to their hot start.

Friday's match against Coastal Carolina will be a special occasion, when in junction with Kick for A Cure, the Ragin' Cajuns will host their Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game. Fans can donate to the cause by clicking on this link, https://donate.go4thegoal.org/team/136446.

As for the action on the pitch, the Cajuns enter the weekend sitting in third place in the Sun Belt Conference ridding a three-match unbeaten streak with their record at 5-4-1 (2-0-1 SBC). So far this season the production has been equal across the board with 10 different women scoring at least one goal and 10 different girls with at least one assist. Â
Senior Ashleigh Cade, fresh off being named Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, has been a force with two goals, three assists and seven points so far this season. While fellow senior Denice Emokpae, not to be outdone, has added three goals, one assist and seven points of her own to help the Cajuns be a balanced team on the pitch.
Sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee, who earned the starting job two weeks into the season, has had a solid season so far. She's 5-1-1 and she currently sits second in the conference in goals against average (0.82) and saver percentage (.838).

As for Coastal Carolina, they sit right behind the Cajuns in fourth place with a record of 7-4-0 (2-2-0 SBC), making Friday's match a meeting of the third and fourth place teams in the conference.Â

It's only the third meeting between the Cajuns and the Chanticleers and it's the first time the two school will meet in Lafayette. All-time the Cajuns are 0-1-1 against the Chanticleers and last year's 2-2 double overtime draw in Conway, South Carolina, on Oct. 23, 2016, was the first time the schools faced each other since 2003.

Sunday's opponent, the Georgia State Panthers, is the first of three straight road matches for the Cajuns. And it's the first time the Cajuns have traveled to Atlanta since a 3-1 loss on Sept. 27, 2015.

All-time the Cajuns are 1-2-1 against the Panthers and their only win came in Atlanta on Sept. 27, 2013 which was a 3-0 victory in the first meeting all-time between the two schools.
