Men's Tennis Takes On TTU, ECU And TAMCC At Cajun Courts

2/22/2018 4:11:00 PM | Men's Tennis

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis team will play three matches over the next two days, starting with the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (8:30 a.m.) and the East Carolina Pirates (1:30 p.m.) on Friday, Feb. 23 and they'll wrap up the weekend on Saturday, Feb. 24, with a morning match against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders to make for a busy weekend at Cajun Courts.

PARKING FOR THE WEEKEND: With the busy weekend surrounding Cajun Courts, with baseball and softball each having games being contested during the matches, the parking situation will be slightly different.  Fans who want to attend the matches will have to park in general parking across from Cajun Field.

That lot is located to the right when first entering the Cajun Field parking lot from Congress, and fans can park anywhere in the first lot located there.  Representatives from the University will be located throughout the lot to direct any fans who might have questions about where they can and can't park.

CAJUNS RIDE IN ON A THREE MATCH STREAK: Louisiana has won their last three matches, starting with a 4-3 win at the defending Atlantic-10 Champion VCU Rams on Tuesday, Feb. 13 and they continued that streak with a 7-0, 6-0, doubleheader sweep of Jackson State at home on Saturday, Feb. 17.

At VCU, things went down to the wire, but at No. 5 Elio Lago clinched things in straight sets to give the Cajuns a solid win before returning to Lafayette.  Louisiana returned to Cajun Courts and in a dominating performance, didn't drop a match, en route to outscoring Jackson State 13-0 in a sweep of that day's doubleheader.

BRING THOSE CANNED GOODS: All through the weekend, the Cajuns will be hosting a canned goods drive with help from FoodNet Food Bank and fans are encouraged to bring any canned goods they have to the matches to be donated.

MATCHES A PLENTY: Louisiana will play three matches over the weekend, but they won't be alone in getting in action on the court.  The three teams who are making the trip will play matches against Louisiana and among themselves over the weekend.
FRIDAY'S ACTION:
8:30 A.M.: LOUISIANA vs. Tennessee Tech (Cajun Courts)
8:30 A.M.: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi vs. East Carolina (Bourgeois Courts)
1:30 P.M.: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi vs. Tennessee Tech (Bourgeois Courts)
1:30 P.M.: LOUISIANA vs. East Carolina (Cajun Courts)
SATURDAY'S ACTION:
8:30 A.M.: East Carolina vs. Tennessee Tech (Bourgeois Courts)
8:30 A.M.: LOUISIANA vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Cajun Courts)

WHAT THE GOLDEN EAGLES BRING: Tennessee Tech, who the Cajuns beat in the two schools lone meeting, 6-1 on Mar. 7, 2007, enters the match 2-6 on the season and the Golden Eagles are the defending Ohio Valley Conference Champions.

WHAT THE PIRATES BRING: East Carolina enters the weekend, with an impressive 8-1 record and a resume of beating a few tough teams through the early parts of the season.   They took down the Naval Academy (6-1) and Temple (5-2) to highlight two bigger wins for them this season.

WHAT THE ISLANDERS BRING: The Islanders enter the weekend at 8-1, with their only loss being to the Texas Longhorns to start the season so the Islanders are bringing a seven-match winning streak into their trip to Louisiana.  Historically the two schools have met annually for over a decade, with TAMCC taking last season's matchup.  But on Feb. 17, 2016, the Cajuns took down the Islanders when they were ranked No. 65 in the nation.
