33rd Annual Louisiana Classics Opens Monday

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to host the 33rd annual Louisiana Classics starting Monday at the par 72, 6,866-yard Oakbourne Country Club.
 
Play gets underway on Monday at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start for the first round. The teams are slated to play 36 holes on the first day with the second round to commence immediately following the completion of the first round.
 
The final round is scheduled for Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. with play starting off of holes one and ten. Admission to the event is free for fans both days, and jambalaya will be provided for spectators on Monday by Tony Chachere's.
 
For the sixth consecutive year all action on hole nine will be live streamed on RaginCajuns.com. Dan McDonald and Gerald Broussard will call the action with the broadcast beginning at 7:55 a.m. on Monday and 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
 
The Field
 
The host Ragin' Cajuns are joined by Illinois, Kent State, Louisville, McNeese, Mississippi State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Texas State, Toldeo, ULM, UMKC and UTSA in the 15-team field.
 
Four teams in the field are ranked in the Golfstat Top 30 including No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 11 Illinois, No. 26 Louisville and No. 28 Kent State.
 
The Lineup
 
Coming off of his first career top 25 finish, freshman Bjorn Gudjonsson is joined by freshmen Justin Caldwell and Peter Hinnant as well as junior Triston Elston and sophomore Jack Tolson in the lineup for the Louisiana Classics. Freshman Cole Kendrick will compete as an individual for the Cajuns.
 
Elston paces the squad with a 73.33 scoring average through 15 rounds with two top 25 finishes. The Cajuns have three players on the squad that have posted a round in the 60s this season including Elston, Tolson and Caldwell.
 
Parings
 
Louisiana is paired with Illinois and Texas A&M for the first two rounds and will start the first day on holes one through five.
 
Up Next
 
Following the Louisiana Classics, the Ragin' Cajuns will head to the prestigious Border Olympics from March 9-10 at the Laredo Country Club.
