LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team is set to wrap up a four-game home stand on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. contest against Nicholls at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The Series
Louisiana leads the all-time series with Nicholls 71-54-1 with a 22-13 mark against the Colonels
under head coach Tony Robichaux.
The Ragin' Cajuns split a pair of games with Nicholls last season falling 3-1 in Thibodaux, La. on Feb. 21 before a dominant 18-2 victory at Russo Park on April 4. Louisiana had 21 hits in the win including nine for extra bases.
The Cajuns have lost just one game to the Colonels at home since 1995 with an 18-1 record. The only loss during that span at home came in 2015 in a 3-1 contest.
Scouting Louisiana
Louisiana (2-5) is coming off of its second consecutive series loss dropping two out of three games at home to Wright State. The Ragin' Cajuns fell 8-2 in the home opener before bouncing back with a 6-3 win on Saturday. On Sunday, the Cajuns came up short in an eventful 4-3 contest that went the way of the Raiders.
The Ragin' Cajuns are hitting .174 as a team led by junior Gavin Bourgeois with a .269 average through seven games. Junior Hunter Kasuls has a team-best four RBI while hitting .259 with a double and home run.
Senior Colten Schmidt will make his third appearance and second start against the Colonels. Schmidt has a 3.00 ERA in 9.0 innings of work with nine strikeouts.
Scouting Nicholls
Nicholls (1-6) is coming off of an 0-3 weekend at the Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Colonels fell 12-1 in their opener against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before dropping a 14-4 decision to No. 21 Mississippi State on Saturday. Nicholls closed out the weekend with a narrow 8-6 loss to UC Santa Barbara.
The Colonels are hitting .274 as a squad with 14 doubles, a triple and four home runs. Ethan Valdez has a team-best .370 average, while Gage Teer and Lee Clark lead the team with six RBI.
Cajuns Fall Out Of Polls
The Ragin' Cajuns have fallen out of the rankings for the first time this season after being ranked the first two weeks of the season by Collegiate Baseball.

Louisiana will head to the Shriner's College Classic this weekend at Minute Maid Park in Houston for three contests against opponents from the SEC. The Cajuns open the tournament on Friday with a 7 p.m. game against No. 21 Mississippi State.
