LAFAYETTE – Riding a four-match winning streak, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns continue their road warrior ways with a visit on Saturday, Feb. 10, to Norfolk, Va., to take on the Old Dominion Monarchs with the match scheduled to start at noon CST.
          Â
Louisiana enters the match sitting at 6-4, with their previous four wins coming in a home opening double header against Xavier (La.), on Jan. 26, and they followed that up with a win at UTSA, on Feb. 2, and another win at Incarnate Word on Feb. 4.
CAJUNS MASTER THE TEXAS TWO STEP: Both matches in Texas were close and not easy for the Cajuns to win, but they showed their determination to get the job done and they beat UTSA, 4-3, and Incarnate Word by the same score.
          Â
The Cajuns took the doubles point in both matches, but they needed every singles win they got to clinch both matches. Senior Vlad Kramarov provided the clincher against UTSA, with a three-set comeback at No. 3 to win his match 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. While against Incarnate Word the clincher came from sophomore Pearse Dolan who went three-sets, but he held off the late charging Cardinals man to take the match 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(4).
DOLAN/KRAMAROV ARE THE HEART: Both Dolan and Kramarov have been great to start the season and they've made the heart of the Cajuns lineup a strength for Louisiana. Playing primarily at either No. 3 or No. 4 the two have put together a solid 7-2 record respectably and this past weekend their performances where both clutch in getting wins for the Cajuns.
DOLAN AND GILHEANY STAY THE COURSE: In doubles the Cajuns duo of Dolan and freshman Pierce Gilheany have remained undefeated through the first month of the season. They added to their win total against UTSA with the first win of the day at doubles, winning 6-1 at No. 2 to get the Cajuns off on the right foot.
WHAT THE MONARCHS BRING: Old Dominion enters the match with a 4-2 record and this is the first home stand for them since they opened up with a double header on Jan. 13 where they took both of those matches. They're coming off a solid 2017 season where they made a run to the C-USA finals, before losing to the 2017 C-USA Champion Rice Owls in the championship game. That run earned them a national ranking of No. 48 when the season wrapped up, and they finished that season with a 19-6 record.
          Â
Sitting at 4-0 and playing mainly their No. 2 singles, is Aziz Kijametovic and he's earned a national ranking of No. 76 after the first month of the season. His biggest win came against Colombia's Jackie Tang, who at the time held a No. 38 ranking nationally. In doubles Kijametovic holds a national ranking, when paired with Francois Musitelli the two are ranked No. 30 in the land.
