Women's Basketball Honors Four Seniors For Senior Night
3/2/2018 3:14:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LAFAYETTE – On Saturday, Mar. 3, at 4 p.m., the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team will honor four seniors ahead of their final game of the season against the Little Rock Trojans at the Cajundome.
WHO ARE THE FOUR SENIORS: Louisiana's four seniors, all from Texas, are Simone Fields, Troi Swain, Nekia Jones and Kendra Howard.
- Simone Fields / Forward / San Antonio, Texas: Fields is the lone senior this season to have spent four years with the Cajuns having come from her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Fields has been a productive post player for the Cajuns over those four seasons, and she scored her 1,000th career point at Toledo on Nov. 18, 2017.Â
          Â
She's going to leave Louisiana with her named etched in several career all-time lists. She'll finish first in games played; third in career field goal percentage; fifth in career rebounds; fifth in field goals made and eighth in points scored and her sophomore and junior seasons rank as the eighth and seventh best single season field goal percentages in school history.Â
          Â
She had career highs in points vs. McNeese (28 pts) on Nov. 12, 2016, and a career high in rebounds vs. ULM (16 reb.) on Mar. 7, 2017. Fields has been a pillar of consistency for her entire career and she'll be missed on the block but remembered for a long time.
- Nekia Jones / Forward / Beaumont, Texas: Jones transferred to Louisiana after the 2015 season from the University of Texas. Since coming to the Cajuns she's been the most exciting thing going and a fan favorite not only in the Cajundome but wherever the Cajuns go.Â
          Â
Jones tied a school record for three-pointers made in a quarter with five in the first quarter of the Cajuns first Conference win at Arkansas State on Dec. 31, 2017, on her way to a career high 25 points. She currently sits eighth on the Cajuns all-time list for three-point field goal percentage (.311).Â
          Â
Jones' excitement, energy and passion for all things Ragin' Cajuns has been evident since she got to Louisiana and her patent crossover and floor slap after every charge taken will be missed by both the Cajuns' fans and teammates.
- Troi Swain / Guard / Round Rock, Texas: The most colorful Cajuns woman to ever grace the Cajundome floor, Swain has been a leader both offensively and defensively for the Cajuns for the past two seasons after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College.Â
          Â
She's recognizable by her ever-changing hair styles, but where she's made an impact is from beyond the arc. She's shot 30 percent in just over two years at Louisiana and this season she's been a staple in the starting lineup. Against Appalachian State on Jan. 4, 2018, Swain had the best game she's had during her senior season, hitting 6 of 11 shots from beyond the arc, to finish with a season high 22 points one off her career high of 23 points.Â
          Â
Swain's defensive production, and colorfully personality will be missed at the Cajundome but never forgotten.Â
- Kendra Howard / Guard / Dallas, Texas: Playing only one season in Louisiana, after transferring from San Jacinto College, Howard's impact has been felt on and off the court in just a short time. Howard is a favorite among her teammates, always carrying a smile with her in practice, in games and off the court.Â
          Â
She was huge in the Cajuns longest game in school history, where she scored a career high 20 points and added a career high eight rebounds in Louisiana's 98-86 triple overtime win over McNeese on Dec. 3, 2017.Â
          Â
Howard's infectious attitude and personality has been a big part of the Cajuns this season, and in just a short period of time she's made an impact both on and off the court for Louisiana.
HOW TO WATCH/FOLLOW/LISTEN: The game will be streamed on the Ragin' Cajuns Digital Network and ESPN 1420 will carry the game with Jay Walker handling the play-by-play duties. Live stats will be provided as well for the game courtesy of the Ragin' Cajuns athletic department.
