The Ragin’ Cajuns are coming off their first SBC win of the season
LAFAYETTEÂ - Coming off their first Sun Belt Conference win of the season the Louisiana soccer team welcomes South Alabama, the defending SBC regular season champions, to the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex on Thursday with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
"Every game is important," said head coach Chris McBride. "Trying to get three points on our side of the conference is going to be huge. We're at the part of the year where we only have two home games left so it'll be exciting."
The Ragin' Cajuns earned a hard-fought win on Sunday over Troy, 1-0. The game was scoreless until Tatum Beck scored her ninth career goal in the 70th minute.
"We put together a good game plan and executed it quite well," said McBride. "Their athleticism up top causes some problems but with the week of preparation we had we were able to limit what they had going forward."
Louisiana's defense stepped up in a big way on Sunday, holding Troy to just two shots on goal while Natalie Mayes recorded her league-leading sixth shutout of the season.Â
"We talked about it after the ULM game that if we could take away some of the goals we were giving up we would have more positive outcomes," added McBride. "We saw that Sunday. We scored the goal, then kept the clean sheet. Front to back everyone was working to be part of the defensive gameplan and we executed it really well."
