History: Built in 1939, Earl K. Long Gymnasium, named after then Louisiana Governor, is on site of the main campus at the University of Louisiana. It serves as the home court to Ragin’ Cajuns volleyball team. E. K. Long Gym also houses the athletic administrative offices for: women's basketball, volleyball, golf and women's soccer.
It was originally used as a boxing facility and physical education building when it was finished.
Volleyball started playing in Earl K. Long Gym in 1976 and has called it home since, while women's basketball didn't start playing in the facility until 1979. Â
The second floor of Earl K. Long Gym holds coach’s offices and a student lounge complete with several computers and printing services for the student-athletes, tables and couches. Both the volleyball and women’s basketball locker rooms are also located in Earl K. Long.Â
Earl K. Long Gym saw extensive renovations in 1994 which gave the facility its current configuration. The renovations included office space for the women's programs.
Â
In 2005, the gym underwent major renovations as the playing surface was replaced and the walls and bleachers recieved a new paint job. The scorers tables were also replaced.
Other renovations include a facelift to the volleyball locker room in 2008 and a conversion of the second floor dance studio into a student-athlete lounge in 2009.
Earl K. Long Gym has seen its share of memorable moments. In the 1999-2001 season, the volleyball team won 28 out of 32 games at Earl K Long Gym.Â
On February 26th, 2005 UL Women’s Basketball won 66-64 over Arkansas State to claim the first-ever Sun Belt Conference West Division Championship.
