Michael Desormeaux – Head Football Coach
Fourth Season as Head Coach | 10th Season Overall

  • Named the 27th head coach in Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Football history on Dec. 5, 2021.
  • Enters his fourth season at the helm with a 23-18 record — the second-most wins through three seasons in program history behind only Billy Napier (28).
  • Guided the Ragin’ Cajuns to a 10-4 record in 2024, a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Game, and the program’s school-record seventh consecutive bowl appearance.
  • Named both the Sun Belt Conference and Louisiana Sportswriters Association Coach of the Year in 2024.
  • Led Louisiana to a perfect 6-0 record on the road in 2024 — the second time in program history to win six or more road games (also 2020).
  • In 2024, quarterback Ben Wooldridge was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year; kicker Kenneth Almendares earned the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top placekicker.
  • Louisiana was one of just six FBS teams to post an unbeaten road record in 2024, joining Penn State, Oregon, Texas, Army, and Notre Dame.


Coaching Career at Louisiana

  • Joined the Ragin’ Cajuns staff in 2016; promoted to Co-Offensive Coordinator in 2021.
  • Helped Louisiana win four straight Sun Belt West Division titles (2018–21) and the program’s first outright Sun Belt Championship in 2021.
  • In 2021, coordinated an offense that ranked third in the Sun Belt in scoring (31.2 ppg) and total offense (397.6 ypg), en route to a program-best 13 wins.
  • In 2020, offense ranked 29th nationally in scoring (33.6 ppg) and 21st in rushing (213.0 ypg).
  • Louisiana’s 2019 offense ranked 8th nationally in total offense (494.1 ypg) and 10th in scoring (37.9 ppg).


Recruiting Impact

  • Played a key role in securing the Sun Belt’s top-ranked recruiting classes in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2023.
  • Maintains strong ties with Louisiana high school coaches and remains a respected figure in statewide recruiting circles.


High School Coaching Career

  • Served as head coach at Ascension Episcopal (2013–15), taking over a winless program and leading it to an 11-2 record and the state semifinals by 2015.
  • Began coaching career as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Catholic-New Iberia (2010–13).


Playing Career at Louisiana

  • Three-time All-Sun Belt selection and 2008 Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year.
  • Passed for 3,893 yards and 23 touchdowns while rushing for 2,843 yards and 16 TDs.
  • Became the eighth QB in NCAA history to rush for 1,000+ yards in back-to-back seasons (2007–08).
  • Led the Sun Belt in passing efficiency and broke Jake Delhomme’s single-season school record for passing efficiency.
  • Member of the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society, graduating with a 3.91 GPA in 2008.


Personal

  • Native of New Iberia, La., and a four-sport standout at Catholic-New Iberia.
  • Led CHS-NI to three consecutive district titles and Class 3A playoff appearances.
  • First-team Class 3A All-State selection and District Offensive MVP in 2003.
  • Desormeaux and his wife, Lindsey, have two children: Thomas and Elle.
