Louisiana Prepped for SBC Championships in Foley

The championship meet begins at 8:30 a.m. with the men followed by the women at 9:15 a.m.
FOLEY, Alabama - The Louisiana cross country team is ready to put on a strong performance at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Foley, Alabama. Louisiana is coming off a race where nine of their 10 scorers recorded personal bests.
At the Arturo Barrios Invitational, Louisiana had nine personal bests at one of the most prestigious events in the country. Peyton Chiasson led the way in the men's 8k with a time of 23:53.9. Joe Patterson (24:20.5), Reece Shelby (24:47.1), and John Walker McDonald (25.11.4) also posted personal bests for the men. On the women's side, Isabelle Russell (20:55.9), Ella Segura (21:05.7), Brooke Spalitta (21:34.6), Skylar Delgado (21:37.1), and Chloe Crowell (22:20.1) also had personal bests in the 6k.Â
Earlier this season Chiasson and Russell were named SBC Runners of the Week for their performances at the Cowboy Stampede. Chiasson won the event as the men took home the team title while Russell was second with the team finishing second.
Chiasson led the men at last year's championships with a 24th-place finish at 26:43.80. His time from the Arturo Barrios Invite would've beaten last year's top time in the conference by four seconds. Russell's average time per mile last time out, 5:36.8, would put her sixth in the conference based on last year's times.
