LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana soccer team starts off the 2025 season at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex, Thursday night, when they host Lamar at 7 p.m.

The Cajuns enter the fourth year of the Chris McBride era after a historic 2024, setting the program record for winning percentage (.550) with a 7-5-8 record. The team started 4-0-3, matching the program's longest unbeaten streak while setting the school record for the longest unbeaten streak to start the season.

Louisiana returns a strong core along the backline. Natalie Mayes returns to the net, where she set the program single season record for shutouts last year with seven. In front of her, the Cajuns bring back Aila Swinton, Lily Parker, Sydney Byrnes, and Chloe Mueller, who combined for 4,465 minutes last season. Adding to the continuity are Sisley Stephens and Sienna Hurrell, who combined for over 2,000 minutes last year for a Cajun team that allowed just 1.10 goals per game.

"It's huge (to have that continuity)," said senior Lily Parker. "We're all working very hard. We went out early the other day as a back unit to work on stuff. We have a lot of new players and it's going to take time, but things are going good so I'm excited."

Adeline Nemeth returns after scoring a team-leading four goals a season ago as a freshman. She'll be joined on the front line by returners Briana Henry and Tori Bockstadter, along with veteran newcomers, Salma Elhaimer, Raegan Latiolais, Olivia Harding, and Maiya Clark.

Louisiana welcomes Lamar to town for the 10th all-time meeting between the schools, with the series tied at 4-4-1. The Ragin' Cajuns took the first four in the series before the Cardinals won the next four. Last season, the sides played to a 1-1 draw in Beaumont, with the Cajuns scoring in the 86th minute to earn the draw.

Thursday's season premiere brings the excitement and expectations of a new season to the team. Coming off the best winning percentage in program history and one of the best defensive seasons in school history, the team has set its sights high this season.

"I really want us to go out there and take over the Sun Belt and make the conference tournament and do our best," said senior Sisley Stephens. "That and getting to make a lot of memories with my amazing team and teammates is what a perfect senior season looks like to me."
