The Cajuns led the night in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks
RUSTON, Louisiana - Despite a strong offensive attack, the Louisiana soccer team was kept off the score sheet in a 2-0 defeat against Louisiana Tech on Thursday in Ruston, Louisiana.
The Ragin' Cajuns outshot the Bulldogs 12-10, with six shots landing on goal. Louisiana had plenty of opportunities with eight corner kicks but couldn't cash in.
Louisiana came out aggressively and registered the first shot of the night just 96 seconds into the contest off the foot of Sydney Byrnes. Salma Elhaimer and Addison Soehn added shots on net, but it was the home side that scored first in the 35th minute after putting away a deflected shot. The score would stay 1-0 after 45 minutes, and the teams went into the locker rooms.
The Cajuns continued to push the pace but were unable to find the back of the net. They recorded five shots, with a pair on net, but Tech scored in the 85th minute on a deep shot beyond the 18 to put the contest away.
Natalie Mayes made three saves on the night. Byrnes, Elhaimer, Soehn, Sophia Moore, Sisley Stephens, and Adeline Nemeth all landed shots on net.
Louisiana returns to the pitch for another in-state foe when they face McNeese on Sunday with a 7 p.m. start from the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex.
