Cajuns Close Non-Conference Home Slate with Sunday Showdown Against Rice

The Ragin’ Cajuns are coming off of back-to-back shutout victories

LAFAYETTE - With back-to-back shutout wins under their belt, the Louisiana soccer team takes on Rice in its final non-conference home contest on Sunday at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex.

Last time out, the Ragin' Cajuns needed some time to get the offense going before scoring a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to beat UTRGV by a score of 2-0. Sisley Stephens got the offense going with a fastbreak goal before Carson Glenn put things out of reach with her second of the season.

Rice comes into the weekend with momentum after beating Oklahoma State, 3-2, at home. Like the Cajuns, the Owls are 3-1 on the year with their only loss coming to preseason No. 1 UNC on the road. The offense has been clicking for the Owls with 11 goals this season, while they've only given up seven on the defensive side.
  • Louisiana takes on Rice for just the second time in program history. Last season in Houston, the two sides played to a 2-2 draw with Aila Swinton and Adeline Nemeth scoring goals for the Cajuns. It was one of two home contests the Owls did not win last season on their home pitch.
  • With the 4-1 win over Lamar, Louisiana had a record-setting performance. The four goals were the second-most in program history in a season opener and it was the second-largest margin of victory to start the year, behind a 10-0 win over Jackson State in 2003.
  • Carson Glenn's penalty kick goal against Lamar was Louisiana's first attempt and make since Karleen Bedre's goal at Arkansas State on Oct. 6, 2022.
  • The Ragin' Cajuns had one of the best defensive seasons in school history in 2024. They allowed just 1.10 goals per game, the fewest in school history, while posting seven shutouts.
  • Louisiana is coming off back-to-back seven win campaigns in 2023 and 2024. It's just the fourth time in program history the Cajuns have won seven or more games in back-to-back seasons (2006-07, 2012-16, 2019-20).
  • The Cajuns went 7-5-8 last season for a .550 winning percentage, the best in school history. The five losses were the fewest by the Cajuns, and the eight draws in a season were a program record.
  •  Natalie Mayes recorded the 10th shutout of her career on Thursday at UTRGV, becoming the fourth player in school history to do so. The junior is just one behind Stephanie Weston and Amanda Moorefield for the school record of 11.
The Cajuns hit the road on Thursday when they take on Ole Miss with a 6 p.m. kick-off in Oxford.
