Joe and Debbie Giglio, both Lafayette natives, have been married for 51 years. They first met in high school when Joe attended Cathedral High (for boys) and Debbie attended Mount Carmel High (for girls). Divine providence brought them together in a coed algebra class, offered jointly by their schools. These institutions, along with Fatima High School, later merged to form what is now St. Thomas More Catholic High School.
After graduating from high school in 1970, Joe and Debbie both attended UL (then known as USL). Debbie earned a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology, while Joe pursued a degree in Civil Engineering. The couple married in 1973, just months before their graduation from UL in 1974. They then moved to New Orleans, where Debbie taught in the Orleans Parish School System while Joe earned his law degree from Tulane University.
Following Joe's graduation from law school in 1977, they returned to Lafayette, where Joe began his legal career with Liskow & Lewis, a firm where he has practiced for 48 years. Debbie dedicated herself to raising their five children, all of whom now reside in Lafayette with their spouses and families. Today, Joe and Debbie take great pride in being the grandparents of fifteen grandchildren.
Over the years, the Giglios have been actively involved in civic, charitable, and religious organizations. They are dedicated members of UL's Alumni Association and the Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Foundation. Additionally, Joe served on the UL Foundation's Board of Trustees for ten years, including two years as Chairman.
With the exceptional leadership of University President Dr. Joseph Savoie and Athletic Director Dr. Bryan Maggard, Joe and Debbie are excited about UL's accomplishments and its promising future. Their deep love for the Ragin' Cajun community is rooted in their lifelong affection for Lafayette—where the University stands at the heart.
Above all, Joe and Debbie take immense pride in their children, their children's spouses, and their fifteen grandchildren. Three of their grandchildren are currently enrolled at UL, with many more likely to follow in their footsteps.
