Rising sophomore provides Ragin’ Cajuns with additional depth in the bullpen
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball head coach Alyson Habetz announced on Monday (July 7) the addition of pitcher Julianne Tipton (Mount Carmel, Tenn.), a transfer from Arizona State, to the program's roster for the 2025-26 academic year.
Â
Tipton becomes a Ragin' Cajun after making her collegiate debut with Big 12-member Arizona State in 2025. She has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Â
"We are absolutely thrilled Julianne (Tipton) has chosen our Ragin' Cajuns Softball family to be whom she'll continue her collegiate career with," Habetz remarked. "This is a huge pickup for us: with valuable Power Four experience, we believe she can be a difference maker in the circle for years to come.
Â
"She's a competitor, with tremendous talent and skill set, who's just getting started," Habetz added. "She brings grit, fire and a bulldog mentality that Cajun Nation is going to love!
Â
"She fits our culture. She fits our vision. She wants to win – and so do we."
Â
As a freshman in 2025, Tipton made 24 appearances (with five starts) and logged 50 innings in the circle for ASU. She made her collegiate debut as the starter against Miami University on February 7.
Â
Tipton posted a 5-2 record, recorded 28 scoreless innings that included 14 perfect innings, notched 33 strikeouts and limited foes to 16 extra base hits. She earned NCAA postseason experience as the Sun Devils received a bid to the Los Angeles Regional hosted by UCLA.
Â
She became the first ASU freshman with double-digit strikeouts in a game since 2017 by recording 10 strikeouts in a win over UTEP on March 1.
Â
A four-year varsity starter for Dobyns-Bennett HS in Kingsport, Tenn., Tipton had a highly successful career. She was named the DBHS Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and Pitcher of the Year in 2023. In her senior campaign, she was named the District 4A Pitcher of the Year, Sweet 16 Player of the Year and All-State.
Â
Tipton worked 467 innings throughout her prep career and accumulated 600-plus strikeouts. As a senior, she had 10 shutouts and four no-hitters.
Â
The addition of Tipton marks the third transfer pickup for the Ragin' Cajuns from a P4 program this offseason. She is joined by transfer infielders Kennedy Marceaux (Kaplan, La./Alabama) and Madyson Manning (West Monroe, La./LSU) as new additions to Louisiana's roster for the 2026 season.
