Cajun Men Finish Third, Women Fourth at Battle for New Orleans

Ella Segura and Henry Lyon paced Louisiana in their first race of the season
NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana cross country team opened the year with a strong showing at the Battle for New Orleans on Friday. Ella Segura led the way for the women while newcomer Henry Lyon was the fastest finisher on the men's side.
Segura finished eighth in the 4K with a time of 13:55.72. Just behind her in 11th was Isabelle Russell, who finished in 14:05.45. Following her was Brooke Spalitta in 20th at 14:24.42, Chloe Crowell in 23rd at 14:27.30, and Juliana Courville in 32nd at 14:47.22 to score for the Ragin' Cajuns. As a team, the women finished fourth overall.
FULL WOMEN'S RESULTS
Lyon crossed the finish line 14th with a time of 15:08.55 in the 5K race, leading four Cajuns in the top 20. Following him in 16th was Matthew Maynard at 15:24.03, Reece Shelby in 18th at 15:31.07, John Walker McDonald in 19th at 15:34.91, and Mason Haley in 22nd with a time of 15:43.98. The team took home third as a group.
FULL MEN'S RESULTS
Overall, Tulane was the champion for the men and women. Southern Miss and LSU were second and third, ahead of Louisiana, in the women's race, while LSU was second ahead of the Cajuns on the men's side.
Louisiana is back at it on September 12 when they head to Baton Rouge for the LSU Invitational.
