Troy Takes Over Midway to Capture New Year’s Contest Over Louisiana

1/1/2026 9:04:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Ragin’ Cajuns steered off course by Trojans’ runs that began in late second quarter

LAFAYETTE Bianca Silva and Amijah Price teamed up to keep the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team within range before Troy claimed a stronghold and went on to capture an 80-54 on New Year's Day at the Cajundome.

Silva scored the first seven points for the Ragin' Cajuns (1-12, 0-3 SBC) in a response to a game-opening 7-0 run from the visiting Trojans (11-2, 2-0 SBC). Her triple at 7:29 and free throw line jumper at 5:15 quickly closed the gap to 9-5 by the game's first media timeout.

Price provided a nine-point spark off the bench in the opening half, tallying seven of those points in the second quarter as she took her turn charging Louisiana's offense. She answered a Troy basket on back-to-back possessions in the waning moments before halftime, the latter a triple at the 2:30 mark making it 35-22.

The Trojans then used a 5-0 first-half ending run followed by separate runs of 8-2 and 14-2 in the third quarter to build a commanding 62-30 edge just inside of two minutes before the final stanza.

Mikaylah Manley, who produced eight points in the third quarter, scored a pull-up jumper at 0:47 to ignite a six-point spurt for UL in the final minute of the third quarter. After Manley's basket, the defense forced back-to-back turnovers leading to free throw opportunities for Imani Daniel and Price slicing the deficit to 63-38 before the period expired.

Louisiana continued to charge at Troy into the fourth quarter with Stephanie Mosley and Daniel working inside to draw three-point plays, with the latter from Daniel bringing the score to 69-44 by the 6:29 mark. The Ragin' Cajuns forced five straight misses from the Trojans then a fastbreak layup from Daniel sliced the deficit to 69-48 with 4:46 remaining.

Leilani Guion made the Trojans' ninth and final triple of the contest a mere nine seconds later kicking off a 7-0 run that returned Troy to a loftier advantage of 76-48 by the 3:32 mark.

The Trojans led wire-to-wire in spoiling the Ragin' Cajuns conference home opener. Troy used 20-plus points in the second and third quarters, producing a 46-29 advantage, to shake off Louisiana.

Thursday's contest continued Louisiana's five-game homestead at the Cajundome which began on Monday vs. Dillard. It was the start of four consecutive SBC games being held on the Ragin' Cajuns' home court through January 10.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Price followed up her season-high 30-point effort vs. Dillard by leading the Ragin' Cajuns in both scoring (15 points) and rebounding (nine rebounds). She also dished out a team-leading four assists.

Silva shared first-half scoring honors with Price, scoring nine of her 13 points in the first 20 minutes.

Manley delivered all 10 of her points in the second half becoming the third Cajun to hit double figures. Daniel was a point shy of double digits and hauled in eight rebounds.

The Ragin' Cajuns were near-perfect at the charity stripe, converting 14-of-15 free throw attempts. Manley (4-of-4), Price (4-of-4) and Daniel (3-of-3) were perfect on their attempts.

Daniel paced the defensive efforts, posting three of the team's four blocks and collecting three of the seven steals.

Troy found fortune in a 9-2 advantage from three-point range, landing four triples during the third quarter pull away, and a hefty 60-37 edge in rebounding which included 18 offensive rebounds leading to 23 second-chance points.

UL held Troy below 40 percent shooting, the Trojans shooting 30-of-81 for 37 percent, but was unable to take advantage as the squad was limited to 29 percent themselves (19-of-66).
