The Gators, ranked No. 10 in the latest Soccer Buzz rankings, showed their dominance early as they quickly scratched the scoreboard. UF scored their first goal of the match just 2-minutes into play to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cajuns made five saves in the first half to keep the score close and go into intermission down by just a pair.
In the second half however, Florida extended their lead with a pair of quick goals. The Gators extended their lead to 6-0 with just 13-minutes remaining in the match.
The Ragin' Cajuns avoided the shutout, as Erin Thompson scored on a reflection by Courtney Hofland. The goal by Thompson was the first goal in school history against a Southeastern Conference opponent.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Weston took the loss for the Cajuns. The sophomore made eight saves on the day, but surrendered four goals in just over 66-minutes of play.
She was relieved by Kristen Malen. The junior made two saves of her own, but allowed the final two goals of the match.
Florida dominated the game offensively the whole game. The Gators took a total of 28 shots, including 16 shots on goal. Conversely, the Ragin' Cajuns attempted just one shot, but made it count as they scored on the attempt.
UL dropped to 0-8-0 all-time against the SEC with the loss. The match with the Gators marked the first time in school history the Cajuns faced a ranked opponent.
The Ragin' Cajuns will look to rebound on Tuesday, Sept. 5, as they extend their road trip. The Cajuns head to Jacksonville, Fla. to take on North Florida. The match marks the first time that the two teams will meet and is slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
The match with North Florida is also the fourth of six consecutive road matches for the Ragin' Cajuns.
