Cajuns Fall Behind Early, Not Able To Capitalize Against Herd in 9-5 Setback

Louisiana to face Georgia Southern in elimination game at 12:30 p.m.
Louisiana (26-30) will face ninth-seeded Georgia Southern (28-30) in an elimination game on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN+ with fans able to listen on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Marshall (32-24), making its first appearance in the SBC postseason since joining the league in 2023, staked a 5-0 lead through four innings, beginning with Jackson Halter's leadoff home run in the first off Louisiana starter Tate Hess (6-3).
The Thundering Herd scored four runs in the third before the Ragin' Cajuns closed the gap to 5-2 in the sixth on Caleb Stelly's sacrifice fly and Conor Higgs' RBI single to center.
Marshall would score a pair of runs over the next two innings to take a 9-2 lead before Louisiana fought back with three runs in the eighth.
Yuhasz, making his first appearance since suffering a shoulder injury at Southern Miss on May 9, ripped an RBI double into the left-field gap and scored on a throwing error – one of five issued by the Thundering Herd.
Stelly and Owen Galt would each reach on fielding errors by Marshall before Amedee's infield single scored Stelly to get Louisiana to within 9-5.
The Ragin' Cajuns threatened in the ninth when Mark Collins reached on an error and Yuhasz singled up the middle, but Marshall reliever Nicholas Weyrich got Stelly to ground out to earn his sixth save of the season.
Bryce Blevins (6-5) earned the win for Marshall, who advanced to face top-seeded Coastal Carolina in the winner's bracket. The left-hander scattered six hits and allowed a pair of runs before being lifted for Charlie Krebs in the sixth.
Hess scattered eight hits and allowed five runs for Louisiana. Blake McGehee pitched 2.0 hitless innings for the Ragin' Cajuns with Wil Taylor tossing 2.2 innings with a season-high four strikeouts.
